Raseborg Castle was built in the 14th century, and is located on a rock which was originally an island surrounded by water. The river Raseborg still exists next to the castle. Due to the strategic location, there were several struggles for the ownership of the castle, and the building was severely damaged in 1523. The castle was abandoned in the 1550s, and it became a ruin. It has been restored since 1890, but it is impossible to figure out the original form of the castle anymore.
